Treasure Hunt

Living on the beach provides so many opportunities to find beach treasures!  Most beach- goers are usually looking for that pretty, unusual shell to add to their collection, but not me….I’m looking for something much harder to find.  Sea glass is my favorite.  It gives me a thrill to find that rare, smooth piece that everyone else passed by. Sea glass that is smooth with no rough edges has been in the water for a very long time, 10-20 years!  Here on Palm Coast beaches, I have found white, green, brown, amber, aqua, blue, pink, yellow and purple.  After a storm or a strong surf, I can find up to 40 pieces in a day!  Shark’s teeth are much harder to find because they are so small but I have lucked out and found some really large, old ones. The prettiest thing to find, in my opinion, are perfect sand dollars, but there are so few of them so its extra special if I come across one. If on that rare day, with a brilliant blue sky overhead and a calm ocean in front of me, I don’t find anything…well then I just enjoy the beach, the best treasure of all!
